If you want to be a great web page designer, you need strong sense of art and abilities of art design.

I think web page design is similar with plane design even though there is always something can be practiced by dynamic websites but not by static websites. We can still apply some principles of plane design into web page design since it’s a kind of aesthetics. Contrast, balance, repeat, scale, similarity, gradation and rhythm can be presented in web pages. They all come out of designer’s taste.

Furthermore, because web pages deliver information by attracting audiences with their vision elements, Web pages designers have to understand how people’s vision flow in order to maximize the information delivery by figuring out the distance, position, proportion and flow of all kinds of vision elements.

It’s also important for the designer to follow the rules of how people think generally then give directions to drive people look from this section to that one, especially when we put a lot of stuff into one page since when people read the information, they can focus on one thing then another. The whole page should look consistent but also diverse. Theme of the whole page should be clear and important information, like headers and updates, should be outstanding and be put into the most obvious place.

Great design and interesting contents are the only reasons attract the audiences. That’s what we should keep in mind.
