comparing MSN and QQ

I’ve been using MSN and QQ which is the most popular free instant messaging computer program in China for long time. I use QQ with most of my friends in China and MSN for friends in the US. Comparing those two IM, I would say I like QQ better.

If it’s just for chatting without any functions, MSN is pretty much the same as QQ but MSN is more international and QQ is for Chinese people. Also some functions in QQ are not free.

Still, there are two useful functions I like best in QQ:

1. QQ supports resuming the download from breakpoint. When people transmit a big file, it’s common for them to see the failure notes in MSN. It’s so frustrating to resend from the very beginning. QQ transmits big files quickly and even it failed when it finished at 50%, you can resume the download and no need to start from the beginning.

2. QQ has convenient screenshot function so that when people want to grab something shown on their screen, they can just do a screenshot(like using “snagshot”) then send. But for MSN in PC, it doesn’t have this function.

As a mature software, I would strongly recommend MSN to upgrade and get these two functions.

  2. Hi! I was surfing and found your blog post… nice! I love your blog. :) Cheers! Sandra. R.

  3. I think I might try it — although my multi-platform client probably doesn’t support many QQ features.
